Polymeric materials are the core of our research. We are particularly interested in the relationships between the chemical structure, molecular architecture, processing conditions and performance of our materials, with a strong focus on their environmental impact.
The main research areas of the POLYFUN group are:
Biocomposites are composite materials made from biobased polymers and natural fibers. Our research is dedicated to the design and development of advanced biocomposites with improved structural and functional properties while maintaining their environmental sustainability.
We design chemical and mechanical appoaches that recover value from plastic waste and promote circular economy principles, working with both thermoplastic and thermoset materials.
We investigate materials and processes for the removal of pollutants from water, and air. Our research focuses on the development of advanced adsorbent, by playing with different starting materials and preparation protocols.
We develop functional coatings using renewable and bio-based materials, aiming to reduce environmental impact while enhancing surface performance.
LCA helps guide sustainable design choices and supports the development of eco-friendly technologies. We perform comprehensive life cycle assessments to evaluate the environmental footprint of materials and processes.
