Our work on epoxy-based vitrimeric coatings with thermal-healing ability has now been published in Macromolecular Materials and Engineering (open access).
Coatings play an increasingly recognized role in many applications, as they protect substrates on which are applied. However, being exposed to external environmental stress, their performance and functionality are often altered over time because of damages, shortening their lifespan.
Our results show that by playing with the composition of the reacting epoxy/anhydride mixtures and selecting the appropriate catalyst, it is possible to obtain easy-to-apply, resistant, self-healing protective coatings with promising potential for a variety of industrial applications.
